Tips for riding motorcycles through Ohio and Kentucky

Riding motorcycles can be practical because they can get you from one location to another quickly and efficiently. However, many people ride motorcycles as a recreational activity. While this is a great way to enjoy the weekend with friends, it can have many safety hazards. All motorcycle riders should take it as their personal responsibility to always aim to improve their safety and skills.

As a motorcycle rider in Kentucky and Ohio, you have the duty to wear a helmet at all times. In the state of Kentucky, the motorcycle helmet law was enacted in 1968. This law states that all riders must wear a helmet if they are under the age of 21, have had their motorcycle operator’s license for under a year or have an instruction permit. Regardless, it is a good idea for all riders to wear a helmet while they are riding on or operating a motorcycle.

How can I stay safe while riding my motorcycle?

While you can never make yourself 100 percent safe when operating a motorcycle (or any other vehicle, for that matter), they are many ways that you can improve your safety and prevent accidents from occurring.

Because of the size disparity between motorcycles and cars, they take up less space on the road. This can mean that if another driver is not paying enough attention, they run the risk of not seeing the motorcyclist. This mistake leads to accidents and costs many Americans’ lives each year.

It might seem as though there is very little that you can do as a motorcycle rider to prevent accidents with negligent drivers. But you can definitely make yourself more visible. It is recommended that you wear highly visible clothing so that you draw attention to yourself. This can be especially effective for the times that you are driving at dusk, in fog or at night.

In addition, it’s helpful to turn on your headlight, even in daylight hours. You never know when you might encounter a dark tunnel or a sharp turn in the road.

If you are a motorcycle rider in Ohio or Kentucky and have been involved in an accident, it is important that you stand up for your rights and that you get the compensation that you deserve.
