Products liability cases may follow Fisher-Price recall

Kentucky parents may assume all the products they buy are well-tested and proven safe for their children to enjoy. Sadly, however, a Fisher-Price product sold nationwide at several major stores and online was just recalled due to a reported fire hazard. Parents who own this product will want to follow this products liability case closely in the weeks to come.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall for several models of Fisher-Price brand infant motion seats. The seats sway, bounce, vibrate and play songs to entertain infants. The motor that operates these features is said to overheat, which can cause a fire to occur.

Parents are urged to discontinue use and contact Fisher-Price with questions concerning the models involved. The product’s model number can be found on the underside of the motor housing. Consumers may be issued a full refund for the product. At least 36 incidents of overheating and one case of a fire have been recorded by Fisher-Price, but no injuries have been reported at this time.

Over 60,000 infant motor seats with the Fisher-Price brand name have been recalled. If any Kentucky consumer has been injured, he or she may be entitled to pursue the recovery of any financial loss caused by such incidents. As with all products liability cases, any manufacturer, distributor, or other parties within the distribution chain may be held legally accountable for knowingly placing a defective product on the market for purchase. The burden of proof lies solely on the plaintiff in such cases, and an experienced attorney’s guidance would surely be a great asset to have on hand.
