Kentucky consumers might assume that products on store shelves are labeled with appropriate allergy warnings. However, a recent candy recall demonstrates that this is not always true. Consumers may wish to follow this potential product liability case in the months to come.
A dark chocolate made by GKI Foods has been recalled due to an omission in its product labeling. Though the product contains milk, the packaging on the product does not say so. The distributor, First Source, and the candy caking company have voluntarily recalled the product. It is distributed to convenience store chains and supermarkets in 27 states. The candy, which has been on the market since Jan. 1, 2016, has been sold in grocery store bulk bins and in packages.
No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date. Consumers may contact First Source or GKI Foods with any questions concerning the candy. Packages may be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund. Anyone with a milk allergy should not ingest the product, and if they already have, should seek medical attention as warranted.
People who are allergic to milk or are sensitive to milk are at risk of allergic reactions if they were to consume this product. Those who have been made sick by a product may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses and other financial losses. Kentucky residents typically choose to hire an experienced attorney when considering a product liability claim. A lawyer with experience in this area of the law can assess a particular case and represent a client’s interests in any claim or legal proceeding that ensues.
If you or a member of your family experienced serious injuries or wrongful death due to a defective product, whether it was a malfunctioning medical device, defective equipment, dangerous drugs, or more, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. A Covington product liability lawyer at TLF: The Medical Injury Law Firm can help you explore your legal options and ensure you receive maximum compensation while holding the responsible entities legally liable for their negligence.
