Widow claims medical malpractice caused husband’s death

Its no secret that there is a certain amount of risk involved with any surgical procedure. These days, technology and more stringent patient safety measures in Kentucky and across the country have greatly reduced the risk for injuries during surgery and other medical procedures. However, physicians, surgeons, and other medical workers are human, and humans will make mistakes. A woman in another state lost her husband due to alleged medical malpractice and she has filed a lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, the man was admitted to the emergency room with abdominal pain. The plaintiff claims her husband’s abdominal pain increased, so he underwent surgery the next day to treat the condition. The day after the surgery, the man’s pain intensified, and he came down with a fever and chills, the lawsuit says. The woman claims her husband’s condition only worsened and he became hyperglycemic and also contracted the infectious disease Clostridium difficil.

The suit says the man’s condition further deteriorated and his heart rate increased to almost 190 beats per minute, so he was transferred to another hospital. Allegedly, while in route, the man became unresponsive and later died. The lawsuit alleges the man died from complications stemming from his abdominal surgery. The plaintiff claims her husband’s death was the result of negligence.

While the vast majority of surgeons and doctors in Kentucky are highly skilled professionals, they can still make mistakes. When errors or negligence during surgical procedures contribute to injuries or the death of a patient, the family may be entitled to pursue legal action. A successful medical malpractice lawsuit can result in rightful compensation to help the family cope with the pain and suffering that comes with losing a loved one.
