Patient safety is a top priority in medical facilities across the state of Kentucky. Unfortunately, negligence and mistakes by physicians and surgeons can lead to injuries to patients and, in some cases, even death. Thousands of medical patients are injured or killed each year due to medical mistakes and negligence. A woman in another state recently filed a medical malpractice suit after alleged negligence led to the death of her husband.
The lawsuit says that the plaintiff’s husband went for a surgical procedure to repair a large hernia. Part of the procedure was a mobilization of the bowel with a mesh repair, according to the suit. The day after the surgery, the woman claims that her husband experienced drainage from the surgical wound as well as increased pain. Allegedly, after reporting the post-surgery difficulties, the man was given stronger pain medication but not seen by a doctor.
Later that evening, the plaintiff claims that her husband experienced breathing difficulties and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The lawsuit says the man was transferred to the intensive care unit after a bowel injury was identified. The man died just a few days later due to a bowel injury that resulted from the hernia repair surgery, the lawsuit claims. The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages in the lawsuit.
Even though patient safety has dramatically improved over the years, negligence or error in medical procedures still attributes to thousands of injuries and deaths each year. Kentucky residents who have been injured or lost loved ones from medical malpractice have the right to take legal action. A successful lawsuit could result in financial relief to offset mounting medical expenses.
