Truck accidents: Car pinned underneath trailer for over an hour

For motorists, few things are as intimidating as driving at high speeds alongside massive tractor-trailers. However, this is a daily occurrence for many drivers in Kentucky. Interstates and major highways across the state are heavily utilized by commercial traffic at all hours of the day. Unfortunately, as populations continue to rise, truck accidents will likely follow suit. A driver was injured in a recent crash between a car and a tractor-trailer, but authorities said it could have been much worse.

The accident happened during the overnight hours on the Bi-State Vietnam Gold Star Twin Bridges in Henderson County. According to reports, a car was traveling northbound when the engine suddenly died, causing the vehicle to lose power. Reports said the driver was leaning over attempting to retrieve a flashlight from the glove compartment when the vehicle was suddenly struck by a tractor-trailer traveling the same direction.

Reportedly, the car was spun 180 degrees and dragged almost 100 yards against the concrete barrier on the bridge. Authorities said the car became pinned underneath the trailer, preventing its driver from exiting. Two wreckers were called to the scene and were able to remove the trailer over an hour later. Police said the driver of the car was injured and taken to a local hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Since tractor-trailers are so big, any accident involving these large rigs has a greater chance of being serious or fatal. Those in Kentucky who have been injured or lost a loved one due to negligence in truck accidents may be able to pursue legal action. Damages from a successful claim could help ease the pain and suffering associated with these types of accidents.
