Tractor-trailers, also referred to as 18-wheelers, are massive vehicles and it can be quite intimidating to share the road with these big rigs. Because of the size of these big rigs, Kentucky motorists should always give them plenty of room and try to stay out of the blind spots of the truck driver. Unfortunately, due to the high volumes of traffic on highways and interstates, truck accidents are almost unavoidable. Tragically, crashes involving tractor-trailers are more likely to be fatal.
A recent crash near Walton resulted in injuries to two people. The accident involved a tractor-trailer and a van, and happened near the I-71/I-75 split. Photos from the crash scene show the van pinned underneath the trailer and smashed up against a concrete barricade.
According to authorities, two people were injured and had to be extracted. They were transported to a local medical center for treatment and were reportedly in stable condition. Reports said the both directions of the roadway were shut down for several hours while the accident scene was investigated and cleared.
Interstates and highways across the state of Kentucky are heavily utilized by commercial vehicles. This means that those in passenger vehicles will be traveling in close proximity to massive trucks like tractor-trailers, thus increasing the odds for a crash. Those who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones due to negligence in truck accidents could benefit by seeking the services of a legal representative. Damages from a successful claim could provide compensation to help families pay medical expenses and recover documented financial losses.
