Kentucky medical facilities are among many others throughout the nation where serious errors occur every year that adversely affect the lives of patients and their families. In fact, a man in another state, whose mother died after being misdiagnosed by her doctor, has become so concerned with the alarming numbers of medical malpractice incidents in the United States that he has written a book about it. One estimate states that as many as 500,000 people die as a result of medical negligence each year.
Just as shocking is a claim that states doctors act in error approximately 15 percent of the time. The author, who also happens to be a renowned pharmaceutical professor, lamented the fact that, when technicians, teachers and others make mistakes in their professions, the flawed situations are often reparable. This is far from being so, regarding incidents that involve medical errors, as many such injuries are permanent or fatal.
The professor who wrote this book about medical malpractice says the death toll can be compared to three jetliners crashing every day and resulting in everyone on board being killed. An associate professor from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine said the problem is getting worse instead of better. He also said that improper diagnosis is one of the most prevalent forms of malpractice today.
