Across America, thousands are injured or killed each year as a result of negligence during medical procedures. These days, things like cosmetic procedures are very common and almost routine. However, even the most minor procedures have the potential to permanently injure patients in Kentucky when safety regulations are taken for granted. A doctor in another state was recently accused of medical malpractice after a patient ended up with permanent brain damage.
The physician that was sued specializes in cosmetic surgery. According to reports, the patient consulted with the physician about Botox and anti-wrinkle treatment for her upcoming wedding, but was convinced to also get liposuction. Eight hours into the procedure, reports say that the patient’s heart stopped and the office called 911 because it was not equipped to handle this type of emergency.
Paramedics arrived and were able to get the woman’s heart beating again. However, there was a delay in getting the woman to the ambulance as the surgeon had to close open wounds on the woman to prevent infection. The woman eventually made it to the hospital, but reports say that she suffered permanent brain damage due to the lack of oxygen. Apparently, multiple medical malpractice allegations have been made against the same doctor.
Stringent health care and safety regulations have been established in Kentucky and across the country to protect patients during medical procedures. However, these regulations only work if doctors and other medical personnel abide by these rules. Families who have been affected by medical malpractice could benefit by seeking the services of a knowledgeable attorney. Much-needed financial relief could result from a successful lawsuit.
