Two Kentucky hospitals face lawsuits over heart procedures

Going to the doctor’s office to get care for a heart condition means putting your life in the hands of the medical professional who sees you. Sadly, some of these professionals don’t always have the patient’s best interests at heart when they recommend treatments for some conditions. Two recent lawsuits claim that doctors at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky, did unnecessary heart procedures on patients just to make money.

The lawsuits, which name a doctor, several medical practices, and the hospital, allege that the medical center’s doctors justified heart surgeries by misrepresenting the severity of the patient’s conditions. They claim that procedures, such as putting in stents, were done just to get payments. Some of the surgeries date back to 1995.

The lawsuits claim that more than 500 people were subjected to harmful and medically unnecessary heart procedures at the medical center. A spokesman for the medical center says the hospital is proud of the cardiac program and will defend the care it provided.

These lawsuits are similar to the claims filed against St. Joseph Hospital in London. That hospital’s parent company agreed to pay the government $16.5 million to resolve false billing claims over heart procedures.

For the people who trusted these medical professionals to make decisions based on their health instead of money, learning that they underwent unnecessary procedures was likely difficult. They have chosen to exercise their right to seek compensation for the incidents. Anyone who has been the victim of medical or hospital malpractice might have the right to seek compensation for claims related to improper medical care.

If you or someone you love has experienced a serious personal injury or wrongful death due to negligent hospital errors, you have the right to obtain compensation through a Kentucky or Ohio medical malpractice claim.
