Medical malpractice: Woman seeks justice after negligent care

Advanced technology and tighter regulations have made the world of health care somewhat safer and more efficient. When a patient seeks medical treatment, he or she does so with the faith that doctors and providers will combine technology with expertise to diagnose and treat the problem or illness. However, most people would be shocked to find out that medical malpractice continues to be one of the leading causes of death and injury in Kentucky and across the United States.

A woman in another state filed a lawsuit after her doctors allegedly failed to treat her condition. The lawsuit said the woman suffered from a condition known as papilledema, which causes swelling in the eye due to increased pressure around the brain. According to claims, the plaintiff saw an optometrist about the condition, but the doctor did nothing to reduce the pressure in her brain and told her to wait four days to see a neurosurgeon.

Allegedly, the women sought treatment with another doctor who also failed to take the necessary action to remedy the condition. As a result, the woman said her condition progressed and resulted in blindness, extreme pain and emotional distress. The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in monetary damages.

While it’s true that Kentucky residents have access to some of the best medical care in the country, there will always be mistakes when humans are involved. Those who suffer injuries due to medical malpractice may want to consider seeking legal representation. A knowledgeable attorney can advise an individual of his or her legal rights and options for obtaining financial relief.
