A family in another state filed a medical malpractice lawsuit after a woman died due to alleged negligent medical treatment.
According to the lawsuit, the woman was experiencing difficulty breathing and had sharp chest pains so she visited a local urgent care clinic for treatment. After being examined, the woman was apparently prescribed antibiotics and told to come back if her conditioned worsened. A short time later, the woman’s symptoms became worse so she returned to the clinic, the lawsuit said.
Allegedly, her vital signs were at panic levels. The lawsuit claimed that she was seen by a new physician, and despite her critical condition, she was given an inhaler and sent home. According to the plaintiffs, the woman died the next day due to blood clots in her lungs. A jury sided with the plaintiffs and awarded them $9 million in damages.
