Triple tragedy in Kentucky after SSDI benefits suspended

Social Security Disability Insurance benefits enabled them to put food on their tables and keep roofs over their heads. Then came the shock: letters from the Social Security Administration arrived telling them that their benefits had been suspended. For three people in Eastern Kentucky, the news was overwhelming.

Officials are investigating their deaths; apparent suicides after the three received letters telling them that their SSDI benefits were being cut off. All three were former clients of a Floyd County lawyer suspected of using phony data from doctors on SSDI claims.

About 900 former clients of lawyer Eric Conn have also received notices telling them that their benefits are being suspended.

According to a newspaper report, most of those who received the letters have SSDI as their only source of income. A suspension of needed benefits is a frightening development that can mean those recipients have no way to buy food, pay their utilities or rent, or buy needed medications.
