Woman awarded $12 million from medical malpractice suit

In recent years, staggering technological advancements have been made in the field of health care. Modern technology combined with strict safety regulations have made medical procedures safer than ever before. Despite this progress, medical malpractice continues to be one of the leading causes of death and injury in Kentucky and across the country. What can be done when a person is injured as a result of negligence during a medical procedure? A woman in another state filed a lawsuit after allegedly suffering injuries during surgery and was awarded a substantial monetary judgment.

According to the lawsuit, the woman suffered permanent injuries due to the negligence of a doctor. The woman had a history of seizures and made regular visits to the emergency room, the lawsuit said. The lawsuit claimed that the plaintiff’s usual treatment was plasma or a vitamin K shot and she was then always discharged.

Allegedly, the woman was on the medication Coumadin to help with the seizures. According to claims. during her last emergency room visit, an inexperienced doctor administered the drug Profilnine. The lawsuit said that only hours later the plaintiff suffered a heart attack due to blood clots, resulting in permanent brain damage. A jury awarded the plaintiff $12 million dollars for her pain and suffering.

Although patient safety has improved by leaps and bounds, mistakes still occur far too often in the medical field. When errors occur during medical procedures, the patient suffers the consequences. Kentucky residents who believe they or a loved one have been a victim of medical malpractice may benefit by seeking the services of an attorney and filing a claim. A successful lawsuit could provide vital financial relief to victims facing mounting medical expenses.
