A woman went to an emergency room outside Kentucky last year because she was not feeling well. She was apparently presenting symptoms of fever, body aches and dizziness. What transpired from that point on resulted in tragedy. Her subsequent death led her husband to claim that it was the result of medical malpractice.
At some point, the attending doctors prescribed injections of herapin to be administered to the woman every eight hours by 5,000 units at a time. Her husband has filed a lawsuit, claiming that an apparent error in connection with lab reports led to the woman being found unresponsive a day after being given her first injections. The direct cause of death was listed as “subarachnoid hemorrhage” of the brain.
The husband wants the doctors who tended to his wife to be held legally accountable for her death. He believes it may have been prevented were it not for their negligence. Medication errors are often listed as reasons for unexpected patient deaths, not only in Kentucky, but throughout the United States. Some studies suggest that hundreds of thousands die each year because of medical mishaps.
The husband is seeking a judgment for punitive and compensatory damages in excess of $50,000. In addition to  wrongful death, the claim lists required intubation, exorbitant head and neck pain and neurological devastation as damages.
