Dental patients may also suffer from medical malpractice

Dentists in Kentucky are required to treat their patients appropriately and with an acceptable level of care. Patients who require dental work often undergo complicated procedures, so they place their trust and their lives in the hands of dentists. However, errors or negligence during a dental procedure can leave patients with disfigurement and other substantial injuries. Many people may be unaware that dentists, like physicians and other medical professionals, can be held accountable for medical malpractice.

A family in another state filed a lawsuit after a dental practice allegedly used unsterilized tools on their 9-year-old son. According to the lawsuit, an employee from the dental clinic contacted the boy’s mother 10 days after the boy’s visit. Allegedly, employees admitted that they did not properly follow procedure when sterilizing their tools and the child was at risk for an infection.

The lawsuit claimed that at least 50 patients may have been affected. A representative from the dental clinic said they promptly notified patients who were at risk after it was discovered that the dental instruments had not been properly cleaned. The plaintiffs claim that their son suffered pain from having blood work done, and he will now have to endure four follow-ups over the course of the next year. The plaintiffs are seeking damages of $2.3 million.

Despite years of experience and extensive training, dental professionals can still be negligent and/or make mistakes. Victims in Kentucky can seek to hold dentists accountable for negligence by filing a medical malpractice claim. A successful lawsuit could result in a monetary award and provide victims and families with much-needed financial relief.
