Alleged medical malpractice leaves husband in vegetative state

Unfortunately, when negligence or mistakes happen during a medical procedure, the patient suffers the consequences. Sometimes, these consequences can mean permanent injuries and even death. Although the vast majority of doctors and surgeons in Kentucky are well-qualified and highly skilled, they are not exempt from making mistakes. A health care facility in another state is facing a medical malpractice lawsuit over allegations that negligence during a procedure left a man with permanent and debilitating injuries.

The lawsuit was filed by the man’s wife and says the man visited the health care facility for a neck surgery. According to the lawsuit, the surgery was a procedure called an anterior cervical discectomy, which involves an incision in the throat area to reach the spine. Allegedly, the man experienced a restricted airway after surgery and began choking.

The plaintiff claims her husband became unresponsive and suffered brain damage due to the lack of oxygen. The man was left in a vegetative state, the lawsuit alleges. The plaintiff holds the facility and staff responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly monitor her husband’s condition and failed to provide timely and appropriate care.

Tragically, negligence during medical procedures is one of the leading causes of injury and death not only in Kentucky, but across the country. One mistake can lead to a lifetime of pain and suffering for patients and families. Those that have been affected by medical malpractice could benefit from seeking the services of an experienced attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in financial relief to help victims and families navigate this difficult experience.
