Truck accidents: 2 suffer critical injuries in crash

| Jul 16, 2020 | Truck Accidents

Interstates and highways across the state of Kentucky see high volumes of commercial traffic at nearly all hours of the day. Tractor-trailers are a very efficient way to transport goods and merchandise across the country, but these huge trucks can be extremely dangerous for those in smaller passenger vehicles. However, it’s not only the size of these vehicles that makes them dangerous. Gasoline, flammable liquids and other hazardous materials are usually transported via tractor-trailers. When truck accidents occur, these loads can spill out, causing serious injuries and even death.

A recent crash in Liberty involving a tractor-trailer left two people with critical injuries. The accident happened during the afternoon on KY 49 near Martens Road. According to reports, a tractor-trailer hauling a load of logs was headed southbound when the driver crossed the center line of the highway for unknown reasons.

Reports said the driver over-corrected, causing the load of logs to shift. Reportedly, the shift caused the load to swing back into oncoming traffic, striking a sedan. Kentucky State Police said the drivers of both vehicles were badly hurt in the crash and air-lifted to a hospital with severe injuries.

Truck drivers are behind the wheel for many hours every day. It is not uncommon for truck drivers to become tired and lose focus, which can cause accidents. Those in Kentucky who have suffered injuries or loss due to negligence in truck accidents could benefit from discussions with a legal representative. Damages from a successful lawsuit could be used to cover medical expenses and other financial losses.
