Medical malpractice: Father perishes after missed diagnosis

When it comes to treating an illness or ailment, correctly diagnosing the problem in a timely manner is the most important part of successful treatment. Tragically, an incorrect or missed diagnosis is a type of medical malpractice that can have permanent and fatal consequences for patients. It's no secret that Kentucky residents are privileged to have access to some of the most advanced medical technology in the country. However, if a proper diagnosis is not made, technology is basically useless.

A woman in another state filed a lawsuit after her father died when his medical providers allegedly sent him home without treatment. According to the lawsuit, the man, who was 81 years old at the time, suffered a fall at home and visited an emergency room for treatment. The plaintiff said her father was taking a blood thinner called Warfarin at the time of his emergency room visit.

Allegedly, the man was diagnosed with two broken ribs, given Tramadol and sent home. The lawsuit said the man died the very next day due to hemorrhage which stemmed from a traumatic brain injury suffered when he fell. The plaintiff accuses the defendants of negligence over claims that they did not give the man the appropriate treatment. The man should have been admitted for observation because the blood thinner increased the likelihood of bleeding, the lawsuit alleged.

Health care providers in the United States are required to undergo years of academic and on-the-job training, but this does not prevent mistakes from happening. Families in Kentucky who have suffered the loss of a loved one as a result of medical malpractice can take action by consulting a legal representative. A seasoned attorney can answer questions and help families pursue rightful compensation.
