Truck accidents can be catastrophic

Tractor-trailers are the backbone of the U.S. economy. Major highways across the country are filled with commercial traffic 24 hours a day. For drivers in Kentucky, it is understandable to be nervous when sharing roadways with these speeding behemoths. Due to their sheer size, truck accidents can be absolutely catastrophic.

Recently, a tragic crash near Florence involving a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a man. The accident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 during the morning hours. Reports indicated a passenger vehicle and a utility truck were stopped on the right shoulder of the roadway.

According to police, a southbound tractor-trailer struck both of the vehicles along with two people who were standing outside of the vehicles. Tragically, authorities said a 34-year-old male was killed in the accident. Reportedly, one person suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, while another person was transported via ambulance in serious but stable condition.

Tractor-trailers demand respect, and those in smaller passenger vehicles should always maintain a safe distance. When traveling near tractor-trailers, most experts agree that the safest place to be is either a reasonable distance behind them or several hundred feet in front of them. It is very dangerous to drive at high speeds alongside a tractor-trailer on the interstate or highway. Those in Kentucky who have suffered injury or loss due to negligence in truck accidents can take action by consulting a legal representative. A successfully litigated claim could provide much-needed compensation to help victims and/or surviving families recover from this traumatic experience.
