Medical malpractice can happen in nursing homes

As loved ones age, living independently can be hazardous and self-care can become difficult. Fortunately, the state of Kentucky is home to an abundance of wonderful long-term care facilities that provide around-the-clock care for loved ones who are no longer able to live alone. Placing a loved one in a nursing facility is always a difficult decision for families. Unfortunately, it seems medical malpractice is not uncommon in nursing homes.

In another state, a woman filed a lawsuit after she allegedly experienced negligent care in a nursing facility. According to the lawsuit, the woman suffered from Alzheimer's disease and became a resident at the facility. The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff was physically abused by a staff member while she was showering at the facility.

Allegedly, a nursing aide at the facility heard the plaintiff screaming and found the plaintiff with a bloody nose. The plaintiff claimed that she had been struck in the face by a staff member. Reportedly, the nursing facility has been cited in the past for negligence with claims of patients with bed sores and other complications. The plaintiff accuses the nursing facility of negligence and seeks an unspecified amount in damages.

Fortunately the vast majority of long-term care facilities and nursing homes in Kentucky are safe and welcoming places for aging loved ones. However, neglect care can still happen. Families whose loved ones have suffered medical malpractice or negligence may want to consider discussions with an experienced legal representative. A successfully litigated claim could result in financial relief to help families with medical expenses and other documented losses.
