Medical malpractice in the United States continues to be an issue

Doctors, nurses and all medical care providers in Kentucky and across the country have a legal and moral obligation to treat patients with an acceptable level of care. Unfortunately, negligent care happens more than most people realize. Recently, two medical malpractice lawsuits were filed against a medical facility in another state after two patients died following surgical procedures.

The first patient, a 40-year-old male, went in for a hip replacement and developed a surgical site infection after being discharged, the lawsuit said. Over the course of a few weeks, the man allegedly returned to the facility and was readmitted and discharged several times due to complications. When the infection didn't clear up, surgeons decided to remove the man's hip implant and fractured his femur during the procedure, according to allegations. The lawsuit claimed the man was given large doses of narcotics after the procedure and died a day later.

In the second lawsuit, a male patient endured back pain for years and underwent a spinal fusion surgery at the facility. The lawsuit said he was discharged four days after the procedure, despite having an elevated temperature and other risk factors. Allegedly, he was found dead the following day. Reportedly, the facility has been accused of undertaking risky surgeries and skirting regulations in order to inflate patient numbers.

The United States is considered to be a global leader when it comes to health care. However, this is an illusion, as many instances of negligent care are often swept under the rug and never reported. Families in Kentucky who have been affected by medical malpractice can take matters into their own hands by seeking a legal representative and filing a lawsuit.
