Truck accidents: State of emergency declared along busy highway

The interstate highways that criss-cross the state of Kentucky are heavily utilized by commercial traffic. For motorists in smaller passenger vehicles, traveling at high speeds in close proximity to massive tractor-trailers and other large trucks can be incredibly intimidating. Sharing roadways with tractor-trailers is not only daunting, it is dangerous. Officials in Fort Mitchell recently declared a state of emergency due to several truck accidents along a notorious stretch of Interstate 75.

According to reports, four separate truck crashes in a 24-hour span demolished nearly 70 feet of a concrete barrier wall near exit 187 on Interstate 75. Officials say the destroyed wall presents a hazard to the public. Over 500 feet of the barrier wall needs to be replaced, officials said. They hope to accelerate repairs by declaring a state of emergency.

Reportedly, this particular section of Interstate 75 is notorious for tractor-trailer crashes. Authorities said the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is looking at repaving the section of highway with friction pavement to improve traction and prevent future accidents. Police are working with county officials to notify the public about the dangerous condition of the roadway. They urge motorists to slow down and use caution when traveling through the area.

Unfortunately, no amount of preparation or precaution can totally prevent accidents from happening. Increased shipping needs means there will be high volumes of commercial traffic on highways across the state, making truck crashes more likely. Those in Kentucky who have suffered injury or loss due to negligence in truck accidents could obtain financial relief by consulting a legal representative and filing a claim.
