Family awarded $9 million in medical malpractice lawsuit

Without question, physicians are widely considered to be some of the most intelligent and capable members of society. Doctors in the state of Kentucky are required to undergo years of academic and on-the-job training in order to legally examine and treat patients. However, whenever humans are involved, mistakes will happen. When mistakes occur during medical treatment, the patient will suffer the consequences. A family in another state filed a medical malpractice lawsuit after a woman died due to alleged negligent medical treatment.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was experiencing difficulty breathing and had sharp chest pains so she visited a local urgent care clinic for treatment. After being examined, the woman was apparently prescribed antibiotics and told to come back if her conditioned worsened. A short time later, the woman's symptoms became worse so she returned to the clinic, the lawsuit said.

Allegedly, her vital signs were at panic levels. The lawsuit claimed that she was seen by a new physician, and despite her critical condition, she was given an inhaler and sent home. According to the plaintiffs, the woman died the next day due to blood clots in her lungs. A jury sided with the plaintiffs and awarded them $9 million in damages.

These days, it's not a question of if mistakes will happen, but when. Negligence during medical treatment is one of the leading causes of death and injury in the United States. Those in Kentucky who have suffered injuries or loss due to medical malpractice may want to consider seeking the services of an experienced attorney. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help victims and families cope with the hardships that usually accompany such a tragic experience.
