Medical malpractice continues to plague the nation

Thousands of surgical procedures take place every single day in Kentucky and across America. Fortunately, the vast majority of these procedures are successful thanks to skilled surgeons and state-of-the-art medical technology. However, it is common knowledge that there is always a chance for error when humans are involved. Tragically, patients and families directly suffer the consequences of medical malpractice.

A man in another state filed a lawsuit over allegations that he was wrongly given prostate cancer surgery. According to the lawsuit, the man's physician led him to believe he had prostate cancer so the man agreed to undergo surgery to remove the cancer. After the procedure, the man was informed that he never had prostate cancer, the lawsuit said.

Allegedly, a pathologist mixed the plaintiff's tissue sample with a sample from a patient who had cancer. A doctor then determined that the plaintiff needed prostate cancer surgery. The lawsuit claimed that, not only was the surgery not needed, the operation also damaged the plaintiff's nerves, leaving him impotent and incontinent. The plaintiff is seeking to hold his medical providers responsible and is asking for $15 million in total damages.

Although medical care has improved by leaps and bounds in the United States, medical malpractice still plagues the nation. Recent statistics say that negligent medical care is the third leading cause of death and injury in America. Those in Kentucky who have suffered due to medical malpractice may want to consider seeking the services of an experienced attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in substantial compensation to help families through this difficult and stressful experience.
