Tips for avoiding truck accidents

Driving at high speeds beside massive tractor-trailers on overcrowded Kentucky interstates can be intimidating and very dangerous for motorists in smaller, passenger vehicles. As the U.S. economy continues to grow, more and more tractor-trailers are needed to transport goods across the country. With more of these large vehicles on the road than ever before, the following tips could be useful for drivers to avoid truck accidents.

For modern adults, operating a motor vehicle is often second nature. However, it is crucial to remain alert behind the wheel at all times, no matter how experienced a driver may be. By always driving defensively, drivers can be ready and act quickly to avoid collisions with tractor-trailers. Keeping a safe distance is also very important when driving near tractor-trailers. Following too close will put drivers at a greater risk for a crash in the event of a sudden stop or blow out.

Drivers should understand that tractor-trailers have large blind spots. For drivers of large commercial vehicles, the largest blind spot is on the right side, but other blind spots include behind the trailer and in front of the cab. Motorists should avoid spending time in these blind areas and pass quickly. Using signal lights is not only required by law, it is extremely important when sharing roads with trucks, as large tractor-trailers require more time to stop or turn.

These days, it is virtually impossible to avoid sharing roadways with large commercial vehicles. By following the aforementioned tips, drivers may reduce the likelihood for an accident. Unfortunately, truck accidents often result in serious injuries or death. Kentucky residents who suffer injury or loss due to negligence in a truck accident may want to discuss the matter with an attorney. A successful claim could result in substantial compensation to recover documented monetary losses.
