Dentists can also commit medical malpractice

When Kentucky citizens require dental work, they trust that their dentists are highly-trained and capable professionals that can provide relief and facilitate dental hygiene. Like all medical professionals, dentists have an obligation and a duty to treat all patients with care, but what happens when errors during a dental procedure cause injury to a patient? Dentists can also also be held liable for medical malpractice.

A woman in another state is suing a dentist over allegations of negligence during a dental procedure. According to the lawsuit, the dentist had performed two root canals on the plaintiff's tooth. The lawsuit says the plaintiff visited the dentist again to have an apicoectomy on the same tooth. Allegedly, the dentist punctured the woman's sinus cavity during the apicoectomy and did not treat it or diagnose it.

It is alleged that the tooth was eventually extracted, but the woman experienced persistent pain at the site. She claims she then visited a surgeon and a foreign object was found above the tooth extraction site, which caused an infection. The plaintiff seeks to hold the defendant responsible over claims of negligence during her dental procedures. She seeks damages in excess of $200,000 and all just relief.

Dentists, like doctors and nurses, have a legal obligation to treat patients with an acceptable standard of care. Kentucky residents who have experienced negligent care may be entitled to financial relief. By filing a medical malpractice claim, victims could receive a substantial monetary award to cover medical expenses and other financial losses that may have occurred as a result of this stressful experience.
