Family of deceased infant alleges medical malpractice

The birth of a child is one of the most wonderful and amazing experiences in the lives of Kentucky parents.  Unfortunately, this joyous experience can quickly be turned into tragedy by negligence during the delivery process. In another state, a young mother lost her baby girl not long after the birth, and she filed a lawsuit alleging medical malpractice.

According to the suit, the mother visited the hospital due to a slow progression of labor. The lawsuit claims that, while at the hospital, the mother started bleeding but her doctor returned too late to carefully examine her or the baby. The lawsuit asserts that later that evening, the unborn child's heartbeat rapidly accelerated. At that point, it was determined that an emergency cesarean section would be needed to deliver the baby.

However, the plaintiffs claim that childbirth was delayed half an hour so the mother could sign consent forms. During the delay, the baby experienced an increasingly rapid heart rate and oxygen deprivation, the lawsuit alleges. Apparently, the child immediately had to be resuscitated after birth and was transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit. Two days later, the child had no brain activity and was removed from life support. The plaintiffs are seeking a total of $9 million in damages for their pain and suffering.

Any errors made during childbirth can lead to permanent injuries and even death. Kentucky families that have experienced negligence or errors during a medical procedure may be entitled to take legal action by filing a medical malpractice lawsuit. A successful suit could result in the entry of a monetary judgment to address financial and emotional losses sustained.
