Failing to diagnose is a form of medical malpractice

A timely and correct diagnosis can be the most important step in the survival of the patient. Timing can be the most critical aspect in treating certain diseases. Unfortunately, delaying or incorrectly diagnosing diseases often results in permanent injury or even the death of the patient. Although patients in Kentucky have access to state-of-the-art care and technology, doctors and other providers can make mistakes. Failing to make an accurate and timely diagnosis can be considered medical malpractice.

Recently, a patient in another state filed a complaint against a health clinic after medical providers allegedly failed to diagnose an illness. According to the complaint, the woman visited the clinic complaining of pain in her right calf but was sent home. Months later, she visited the clinic again with the same symptoms, the suit says.

Allegedly, the woman was diagnosed with femoral vein thrombosis and had to be hospitalized. The plaintiff claims that the health care providers originally failed to recognize the symptoms and signs of deep venous thrombosis. The suit alleges that the delayed diagnosis resulted in her hospitalization. The plaintiffs seek more than $75,000 plus court costs and interest.

A timely diagnosis is often the most crucial step in fighting illness and ensuring the safety of the patient. Kentucky citizens have access to some of the best medical care available, but unfortunately, mistakes will happen. When these mistakes endanger the life of the patient, legal action can be pursued. A successful medical malpractice lawsuit could provide victims and families with vital compensation to help them through this difficult and traumatic experience.
