Consequences of birth injuries can be catastrophic

One of the reasons that birth injuries often result in multi-million dollar settlements in Kentucky, Ohio or any other part of the nation is because the consequences of such injuries usually last a lifetime. And as occasionally will occur both the mother and the child can be injured at the same time.

Recently birth related injuries forced the mother of the child having to receive a follow-up hysterectomy. Those same birth related injuries are being blamed for a baby being born "medically deceased," though doctors were able to resuscitate the child. Unfortunately, the child who is now 3-years old suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of the injuries.

Usually this kind of injury is the result of oxygen deprivation during pregnancy. Determining cause and effect in such situations can be difficult. It requires examining the treatment from beginning to end to examine all aspects of treatment that could have been conducted differently.

What is being alleged in the above matter is that the woman checked into the hospital with the anticipation of undergoing a normal birth of her child. Though labor did not take place as planned, the hospital failed to adequately assess the situation and take the proper action.

While in labor the child remained in fetal distress and only later was a cesarean section performed to alleviate the situation. It is alleged that the infant child could have been born healthy if this procedure had been performed just 15-minutes earlier. If what is alleged is correct, the medical facility where the birth took place should be held responsible for what has occurred.
